Art as Counter-Archive: Documenting Violence in the Era of Post-Truth Politics
25.09 - 27.09.2025
Matāha explores Syria’s post-2011 history as a fragmented and nonlinear terrain of memory, shaped through the artist’s personal and collective experience of conflict. Born from a struggle for freedom, this terrain was later reshaped by authoritarian repression, foreign intervention, and the rise of extremist forces. The title Matāha (Arabic for “labyrinth”) evokes a space of intersections, disorientation, and multiplicity, reflecting the layered and unresolved nature of human memory as a spatial, psychological, and historical entanglement.
